Job Summary

The University of West Florida invites applications for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for Student Health Services. This is an OPS position reporting to the Associate Director Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The successful candidate will be an LPN in good standing with the Florida Board of Nursing. He/she prepares patients for exams, procedures, and gathers all needed equipment, accurately documents care given in EMR and shares pertinent information gathered, including: health history, vital signs, and current complaints with the healthcare providers. Duties include performing basic lab tests, blood draws, injections, dressing changes, set-ups for procedures and other tasks as directed by the healthcare providers. Responsibilities include: handling patient calls/requests and interacting with pharmacies and other entities in the delivery of patient care, assisting in the monitoring and maintenance of medical supplies, clinical logs, and other tasks as assigned by the providers or associate director. Applicants should have interest in and the ability to deliver competent care to a culturally diverse student population. This position requires graduation from a state-approved training program in practical nursing and a current license in good standing with the Florida Board of Nursing. Applicant assumes responsibility for providing care within scope of practice, ethical conduct, and the guidelines of Florida nursing laws and must be familiar with medical privacy laws. Applicant must possess excellent communication skills, and be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, staff, and public in a professional, caring, respectful, and nonjudgmental manner. Applicant must be able to respond promptly to providers’ directions and assist in meeting the physical and mental health needs of patients.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications include licensed as a practical nurse in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code, section 210.

Preferred Qualifications

Interest and experience working in university Student Health Services. Current BLS & IV certification. Demonstrated competency and commitment in working with a culturally diverse student population. Possess good computer skills and experience working with electronic medical records. Two years recent clinical experience in a hospital, doctor’s office, outpatient clinic, or similar setting.
