Job Summary

The University of West Florida Department of Research and Advanced Studies (RAS) invites applications for the position of a Visiting Instructor with a specialization in Higher Education and Social Foundations or Qualitative/Quantitative Research or Mixed Methods courses. This is a nine-month visiting instructor faculty position with an expected start date of January 2018. The successful candidate will primarily teach graduate courses in the College Student Affairs Administration (CSAA) and the Ed.D. Program in Curriculum and Instruction in both face-to-face and online environments.

The successful candidate will coordinate the CSAA Master’s program, with duties including but not limited to: planning and executing CSAA orientation, recruitment, program advertisement, program/course development, interview weekend, coordinate admission processes, and represent the program to outside constituencies. Furthermore, the candidate will assist with the creation and implementation of the Higher Education specialization in the Ed.D. program.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate field of specialization or equivalent qualifications based on professional experience and otherwise qualified to perform assigned duties.  

Preferred Qualifications

A Ph.D. or Doctorate in Higher Education or related field (to be completed before January 2018). A Doctoral degree documenting expertise in Higher Education and Social Foundations or Qualitative/Quantitative Research or Mixed Methods from an accredited institution with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service. Transcripts should ascertain that the candidate has the requisite courses to qualify under the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) accreditation requirements to teach Higher Education, and Social Foundations or Qualitative/Quantitative Research or Mixed Methods courses.

Applicants should also have a minimum of 3 years working experience in teaching within a higher education setting. Additionally, the successful candidate is expected to have a research agenda related to Higher Education and Social Foundations or Qualitative/Quantitative Research, or Mixed Methods approaches in education. Candidates will be expected to: engage in program/curriculum development; coordinate CSAA faculty meetings; serve as a chair and/or a member of students’ doctoral committees; provide active support for comprehensive examinations; participate in purposeful mentoring; contribute to UWF’s status as a Carnegie Community Engaged University; and serve on university, college, and department committees. Evidence of a commitment to diversity is expected.

• Evidence of effective teaching at the graduate level, experience in higher education administration, and active participation in professional organizations (e.g., NASPA, ACPA)
• Demonstrated knowledge of online educational delivery tools
• Demonstrated pedagogical content knowledge in Higher Education and Social Foundations or Qualitative/Quantitative Research, or Mixed Methods approaches in education
• Demonstrated competence in multicultural environments
• Preference will be given to candidates who are able to teach other courses offered in the department
