Job Summary

Department of Research and Advanced Studies (RAS) invites applications for the position of a 4-year Visiting Instructor of Research and Advanced Studies with a specialization in Social Foundations, and Qualitative Research. This is a nine-month non-tenure earning, yearly, renewable faculty position with an expected start date of January 2018.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate field of specialization or equivalent qualifications based on professional experience and otherwise qualified to perform assigned duties.  

Preferred Qualifications

A Ph.D. or Doctorate in Education or related field (to be completed before January 2018). A Doctoral degree documenting expertise in Social Foundations and Qualitative Research methods from an accredited institution with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service. Transcripts should ascertain that the candidate has the requisite courses to qualify under the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) accreditation requirements to teach Social Foundations, Qualitative Research, and Mixed Methods courses.

Applicants should also have a minimum of 3 years working experience in teaching within a higher education setting. Additionally, the successful candidate is expected to have a research agenda related to Social Foundations, Qualitative Research, and Mixed Methods approaches in education. Candidates will be expected to: teach graduate courses in Social Foundations in Education, Qualitative Research I, II, and III, and Mixed Methods in both face-to-face and online environments; engage in program/curriculum development; serve as a chair and/or a member of students’ doctoral committees; provide active support for dissertations; participate in purposeful mentoring; conduct research, publish, perform other scholarly activities in areas of expertise; contribute to UWF’s status as a Carnegie Community Engaged university; and serve on university, college, and department committees. Experience with doctoral dissertation supervision is expected. Evidence of a commitment to diversity is expected.

• Demonstrated proficiency in designing doctoral courses and programs
• Demonstrated knowledge of online educational delivery tools
• Demonstrated pedagogical content knowledge in social foundations and marginalized populations
• Demonstrated competence in multicultural environments
• Demonstrated engagement with international students or teaching international students
• Preference will be given to candidates who are able to teach other courses offered in the department
